If you haven’t been to Chilton Hospital in a while, you may not know about the many exciting enhancements taking place at this bustling community hospital. Located in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, at the crossroads of Morris, Passaic and Bergen counties, Chilton is a 260-bed, fully accredited acute care hospital with 1400 employees and more than 600 physicians representing 60 medical specialties. Chilton is committed to providing innovative patient care in a compassionate and healing environment focused on personalized care. Annually, it serves more than 160,000 patients across 33 communities.

Chilton offers a large array of services to the community including: the award-winning Primary Stroke Center, which is five star rated for 6 years in a row by HealthGrades; Robot-Assisted Surgery featuring the latest generation da Vinci Robotic Surgical System; the Chilton Cancer Center; newly-renovated Family Care Services including the MotherBaby Center, featuring beautiful all-private suites, celebration meals and a spa with massage services for moms; the Emergency Department, serving 48,000 patients annually, and the dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department where patients see a pediatric emergency doctor within about 20 minutes of arrival guaranteed; the accredited Sleep Health Institute; and the Wound Healing Center, which is among only a handful of hospitals in the region to offer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

Chilton recently embarked on a $24 million renovation and modernization project that is not only transforming its facilities, but the way in which it delivers care to its communities. The renovation exemplifies Chilton’s commitment to offering an exceptional level of care, combining clinical excellence with a focus on optimizing the patient experience. Among the many enhancements, Chilton is tripling the number of its private rooms, exceeding the standard of any other area hospital.

All patient care areas are being modernized with the latest technology and redesigned to portray a soothing, comfortable environment, incorporating natural color tones and the warm comforts of home to reduce stress and promote healing.

Furthermore, Chilton has introduced a fresh new look and updated logo, which better reflects its new services and beautified patient care areas.

Warm and Welcoming New Breast Center
Chilton Hospital recently celebrated the opening of its new Comprehensive Breast Center. The 10-month, $1.6 million renovation created a setting of natural tones and greenery with a focus on privacy and efficiency. It will improve the overall patient experience and ensure patients receive the highest level of care in order to find and diagnose breast cancer early – which ultimately saves lives. The Center provides the same level of care and expertise as the large academic medical centers, with a personal touch, that can only be found in a community hospital.

The Center offers digital screening and diagnostic mammography, as well as breast ultrasound and MRI, and bone densitometry. A third digital mammography unit, two brand new state of the art ultrasound machines, and a new bone density machine were added as part of the renovation project. We also updated all of our biopsy equipment used to perform stereotactic, ultrasound guided, and MRI guided breast biopsies.

In 2010, Physicians ranked Chilton No. 1 for Breast Cancer Treatment for hospitals with fewer than 350 beds, according to Castle Connolly, an organization that helps consumers find the best doctors.

New Heart Center Ready to Save Lives
Chilton Hospital, nationally known for excellence in cardiac care, recently opened its new $3.6 million Cardiovascular Interventional Lab (CVIL, offering a full range of life-saving procedures, including cardiac catheterizations, primary angioplasty, pacemaker placement and more.

The CVIL was designed for optimal speed and enhanced comfort. A new, state-of-the-art imaging system offers a quicker diagnosis and decreased length of stay, all while emitting a low radiation dose. There is also a larger, more comfortable four-bed holding area and a new waiting area.

"The new Cardiovascular Interventional Lab will allow Chilton to continue to provide the best cardiovascular care to our patients in the comfort of their own neighborhood," said Chilton Cardiologist and CVIL Director Lawrence R. Blitz, MD. "At Chilton, we take pride in our reputation of award-winning cardiac care. This new unit will help us continue raising the bar while increasing patient satisfaction."

New Orthopedics Center is the Hippest Place in Town
The Total Joint Center at Chilton Hospital is a newly opened inpatient unit for those who have undergone joint replacements and other orthopedic procedures. The goal of the Center is to return patients to optimal functioning as quickly and safely as possible.

The Joint Center offers a unique experience to patients. It features 24 beautifully appointed private rooms specifically designed to allow for adaptive equipment for the joint patient. A rehabilitation gym with state-of-the-art equipment is located on the unit. Patients are afforded the comforts of home including flat screen TVs, free wireless internet access, ample closet space, comfortable furniture and daybeds so family members can spend the night. A personalized itinerary is also created to keep each patient informed of the day’s activities, care plan and goals.

The Joint Center care team uses a leading-edge approach to assess, prevent, treat and rehabilitate individuals with bone and joint issues. A comprehensive pre- and post-surgery program, delivered by a specially trained team with clinical expertise, provides a quality of care that exceeds expectations. In fact, the team has undergone hours of training and education to ensure they provide each patient with the highest standard of care.

In 2010, Physicians ranked Chilton No. 1 for hip and knee replacements for hospitals with fewer than 350 beds, according to Castle Connolly.

Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery Yields Maximum Results
Facing a traditional, open surgery for prostate cancer or gynecological issues often means putting your life on hold while recovering for a long period of time. It also requires extended time off of work and spending less quality time with your family while you’re recuperating.

Today, however, minimally invasive robot assisted surgery is changing that for many people.

A variety of minimally invasive procedures can now be performed Chilton surgeons using the latest generation da Vinci Robotic surgical system. Patients experience less pain, blood loss and scarring – with fewer complications, a shorter hospital stay and a quicker recovery.

Robot-assisted surgeries, such as hysterectomy, yield many advantages to the patient because it is easier for the surgeon to perform. The da Vinci robot is superior to traditional open or laparoscopic techniques because of the amazing 3D HD (three dimensional, high definition) visibility. In addition, the surgeon uses a device which replicates a miniscule human hand that allows the surgeon to reach into tiny areas.
