Nearly 1,000 guests attended the 2011 annual Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation Recognition Gala, which raised $2.1 million for the Foundation.

Held on Ellis Island in late 2011, executive staff and board members of HackensackUMC and the HackensackUMC Foundation joined leaders and members of the community in recognizing the Foundation’s efforts throughout the year. The evening’s guest of honor was Charles Osgood, national honorary chairman for the Heart & Vascular Hospital’s “A Beat Beyond” campaign, and anchor of “CBS News Sunday Morning,” and “The Osgood File,” his daily news commentary broadcast on the CBS Radio Network. Proceeds from the black-tie affair directly benefit HackensackUMC’s Heart & Vascular Hospital and the upcoming expansion of the medical center’s Emergency Trauma Department.

“I congratulate the HackensackUMC Foundation on its fundraising efforts throughout the year,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of HackensackUMC. “Funding that the Foundation provides has been instrumental to the success of HackensackUMC.”

“I am extremely proud to announce that 2011 was a record-breaking year for the HackensackUMC Foundation,” said Robert L. Torre, executive vice president and chief operating officer of HackensackUMC Foundation. “We raised $32 million in 2011 alone. This annual Foundation Recognition Gala contributes significantly to our fundraising efforts, and we are grateful to all of our patrons.”

Established in 1980 as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation raises funds and receives as many as 17,000 charitable gifts annually that support the diverse programs and services at the medical center. The Foundation accepts contributions in the form of: direct cash gifts and pledges, matching corporate gifts, planned gifts and naming opportunities.
