Albany Medical Center

Albany Medical Center’s Pediatrics Group will host a two-day visiting lectureship (Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13) designed to educate Albany Med faculty, residents and students about the dangers of second- and third-hand smoke on pediatric populations and patients. Students from the SUNY Albany School of Public Health Maternal Child Health Catalyst Program also will participate.

Karen Wilson, M.D., M.P.H, Debra and Leon Black Division Chief of General Pediatrics, Vice Chair of Clinical and Translational Research, Department of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai Hospital, will present. Dr. Wilson has lead numerous research studies examining smoke exposure in children living in multi-unit housing and the role of secondhand smoke in inpatient admissions.

Dr. Wilson’s lectureship is designed to promote secondhand smoke exposure control and integrate secondhand smoke prevention activities in pediatric education, educational institutions, and community advocacy efforts.

The lectureship is made possible through the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Julius B. Richmond Center Visiting Lectureship Grant, funded by the Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute and awarded to Kristen Navarette, M.D., pediatrician at Albany Medical Center.
