Albany Medical Center

The Nick’s Fight to Be Healed Foundation on Thursday presented a $40,000 gift to physicians and staff of the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center.

The gift will support a child life specialist position at the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders—the region’s only childhood cancer center.

Created in honor of Nick Cammarata, of Clifton Park, who, at age 13 in 2008, lost his battle with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the Nick’s Fight to be Healed Foundation supports pediatric and young adult patients and families fighting cancer.

“We are proud and honored to support The Melodies Center and the incredible staff who help heal children with cancer,” said Janine Cammarata, Nick’s mother and foundation president. “We do this in memory of my son, Nick, because he always helped others.”

The Nick’s Fight to Be Healed Foundation has raised more than $385,000 in cash and Gift in kind for the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Med since 2008. Those monies have provided funding for the child life position at the Melodies Center, DVDs, books, and other programs such as financial support to ease the stress of hospitalization for patients and families.
