Charitable giving flourished with the Spring season at Raritan Bay Medical Center Foundation’s “Inspirations: A Celebration of Art & Spring,” art show preview reception held recently. The eleventh annual event, a chic evening complete with live music by the Victor Quezada Jazz Trio, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and cash raffle, raised more than $31,000 for Raritan Bay Medical Center’s (RBMC) Wilentz Patient Care Center. More than 215 philanthropic art enthusiasts attended the reception, which also honored longtime Perth Amboy civic champion Barbara Booz for her commitment and advocacy for the city.

Among the evening’s highlights were presentations of the Donna Sewitch Nursing Excellence Award, providing scholarships totaling $1,000 each to New Brunswick resident Barbara Tsounis, who is beginning her second year in the nursing program at Middlesex County College, to Spotswood resident Lisa Obermann, RN, nurse manager of RBMC’s Wilentz Patient Care Center, and East Brunswick resident Deborah Prinzo, RN, nurse manager of RBMC’s Old Bridge Medical Day Stay Unit. Lisa and Deborah were selected for demonstrating exceptional leadership skills, professionalism and compassion.

Inspirations featured selected works by predominantly New Jersey artists including; Bishop Donald Hilliard, Jr. of Perth Amboy, the late Louis P. Booz III formerly of Perth Amboy, Sandy Mezinis of Metuchen, EJ Davis of Chatham, Cabbar Komek of Perth Amboy, Francis McGinley formerly of Perth Amboy, Susan H. Schaffer of Bethlehem PA, David Simchock of Titusville, Tom Keough of Brooklyn, Kim Adlerman of Metuchen, Olga Bautista of Perth Amboy, Connie Elek of Sewaren and Benjamin Chalfin of Metuchen along with works from Woodbridge and Perth Amboy school district art students.

With the help of funding from the Raritan Bay Medical Center Foundation, the hospital embarked on a comprehensive renewal program in 2008 beginning with renovations to the rededicated Dr. Sam. Gordon Berkow Maternity Pavilion. The project continues in 2009 with plans to improve hospital amenities and facilities, including the recently completed new coffee and gift shop, new private and semi-private patient rooms and emergency department renovations.
